Myofunctional Therapy for All Ages in Southwest Missouri

Meet your therapist

Rachel, M.S., CCC-SLP

My journey into myofunctional therapy began in 2022 when I completed my first training through Neo-Health Services. What I learned opened my eyes to how much oral function impacts nearly every aspect of our health, from sleep quality and breathing to eating, speech, facial development, and overall well-being. I quickly realized this was an area I wanted to pursue deeply so I could better serve the families and individuals I work with.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist with a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, I have spent years helping clients build skills and confidence. In February 2026, I completed advanced training through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT), one of the most comprehensive and rigorous myofunctional training programs available. I have completed my coursework and am currently pursuing certification as a Certified Orofacial Myologist (COM®).

What I love most about myofunctional therapy is that it is rarely about just one thing. A child may come in because of a tongue thrust, mouth breathing, or orthodontic concerns, but as we work together, families often notice improvements in sleep, eating, energy levels, attention, and overall quality of life. Adults frequently tell me they never realized how much their oral habits, breathing patterns, or muscle function were affecting their daily lives until they began treatment.

I am passionate about working alongside dentists, orthodontists, physicians, bodyworkers, and other healthcare professionals to provide truly comprehensive care. Some of the most rewarding moments in my career have come from seeing what happens when a team of providers works together to address the root causes of a problem rather than simply managing the symptoms.

Above all, I believe that change is possible. Whether you’re seeking answers for your child or looking to improve your own health and function, it’s never too early and never too late to make progress. My goal is to provide education, support, and individualized treatment that empowers you to create lasting improvements for years to come.

I look forward to being part of your journey.

The problem

Do any of these sound familiar?

“I never feel like I sleep all the way through the night. I wake up exhausted.”

“My child has been in speech therapy for so long, but speech still does not sound clear.”

“My jaw keeps hurting, and nothing I try seems to make it better.”

“My husband snores so loudly that neither of us gets real rest.”

The solution

What is myofunctional therapy?

Myofunctional therapy is a specialized treatment approach that retrains weakened muscles of the face, tongue, mouth, and throat so they work together with better strength and coordination. That improved function can support healthier breathing, clearer speech, and better overall oral function, and it is often used for concerns such as TMJ dysfunction, dental issues, and speech or communication challenges.

Instead of focusing only on the visible symptom, therapy works on the patterns underneath it. That may include lip closure, tongue placement, nasal breathing habits, swallow mechanics, and carryover into everyday routines.

What to expect

Evaluation and treatment, step by step

Step 1

Comprehensive evaluation

Rachel reviews symptoms, oral resting posture, breathing habits, swallow patterns, and the concerns that matter most to your family.

Step 2

Custom treatment plan

You receive a clear plan built around the patterns that need to change, including the exercises and home support that make those changes stick.

Step 3

Active therapy

Sessions focus on building stronger, more functional muscle patterns for breathing, resting posture, swallow mechanics, and related oral coordination skills.

Step 4

Graduation and carryover

As goals are met, therapy shifts toward independence so the new patterns continue at home, at school, and in everyday routines.
